ALBERTON, P.E.I. — The Western Hospital collaborative emergency centre will be temporarily closed starting March 28 and re-open April 3 because of a lack of nursing coverage.

The hospital’s emergency department will continue to operate from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.

Anyone with emergency medical needs overnight in the West Prince area should call 911 or go to the Prince County Hospital if they are experiencing discomfort or tightness in the chest, unusual shortness of breath or abdominal pain.

They should also seek treatment if experiencing prolonged and persistent headaches or dizziness, an injury requiring stitches or involving a broken bone, a child has prolonged diarrhea or vomiting, or a baby younger than six months has a fever of 38C or higher.
