Environment Canada says computer long-range models are starting to all agree that a nor’easter storm is on its way to P.E.I. later this week.
It looks like a strong possibility that snow might start across P.E.I. Thursday afternoon with a changeover to rain possible in the eastern part of the province late Thursday night. Early snowfall estimates are looking at about 20 to 30 centimetres for most of the province.
“Potential impacts from this storm include possible power outages, deteriorating travel conditions or delays, and potential school disruptions,” says Environment Canada.
Northeasterly winds might strengthen with gusts near 90 km/h late Thursday afternoon. The winds could shift Thursday night to become strong southerly winds.
“Strong winds combined with snow will give poor visibilities in blowing snow during the storm,” says Environment Canada.
Water damage from storm surges may affect some coasts, it warns.
For today, the The Confederation Bridge is currently open to all traffic.
The Charlottetown Airport is showing all flights on time.
On P.E.I. today, early morning temperatures ranged from a high of –10.2 at East Point, to a low of -17.6 in Summerside.
