School delays and closures:

Due to province-wide weather warnings of freezing rain and expected hazardous road and travel conditions today, the following closures and delays are in place:

Closures:

  • All schools in the Public Schools Branch family of schools are closed for the day
  • The French Language School Board schools are closed for the day
  • Study Abroad Canada closed for the day
  • UPEI is closed for the day
  • Holland College campuses will be closed for the day
  • Collège de l'Île campuses will be closed for the day
  • Island Montessori Academy campuses will be closed for the day

Cancellation:

  • Parent Teacher Conferences at Grace Christian School that were scheduled for today are cancelled. A further announcement will be sent to parents later today regarding rescheduling.


Health P.E.I.

Due to inclement weather and road conditions, the following health service(s) scheduled for today are impacted:

As of 10:30 a.m.

  • Medicare Office in Montague (Douses Road) is closed to the public until 12:30 p.m.
  • Health PEI corporate office in Charlottetown (16 Garfield Street) is closed to the public until 12:30 p.m.
  • Cardiac and Pulmonary Rehab session at Credit Union Place in Summerside is cancelled

Health P.E.I. reminds Islanders with appointments at hospitals, clinics and other health care services to call ahead to confirm their appointment – or notify staff if they are unable to make the appointment. 

Islanders are also reminded to call 811 for non-urgent health care advice or 911 in the event of an emergency.

Event delay:

  • The P.E.I. Senior Curling Championship opening draw scheduled for 10 a.m. this morning in Summerside at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club has been delayed until 2 p.m. A further announcement will be made later this morning on the status of the 2 p.m. draw.


Weather

UPDATE: The freezing rain warning has ended for P.E.I.

Ice pellets are expected to begin early this morning across P.E.I., changing to freezing rain this morning then changing to periods of rain near noon, with fog patches also developing near noon. About five millimetres of rainfall is expected with wind gusting up to 60 km/h. Today’s high is 5 C.

Periods of rain are expected to end near midnight then become partly cloudy with a 30 per cent chance of flurries. Fog patches will dissipate this evening. The total rainfall amount is two millimetres and winds are expected to gust up to 60 km/h. Tonight’s low will be -10 C, but with the wind chill it will feel like -22 C overnight.For updates, visit Weather.gc.ca.

  • Air Canada flight 7754 scheduled to arrive at 1:11 p.m. from Halifax has been delayed until 1:41 p.m.

Departure cancellation:

  • Air Canada flight 7751 scheduled to depart at 9:20 a.m. heading to Halifax has been cancelled.

Departure delay:

  • Air Canada flight 7519 scheduled to depart at 11:50 a.m. heading to Toronto has been delayed until 1:35 p.m
