MISCOUCHE, P.E.I. - Maritime Electric is holding an emergency outage this evening in order to repair a utility pole that was struck by a car earlier in the day.
The outage is needed to conduct repairs in the Alberton, O'Leary and Wellington areas, while police have also closed a section of Route 2 between the MacLean Road and Allen Road in Miscouche so crews can repair the damaged pole.
Maritime Electric said the outage is expected to last about two hours and the company’s call centre is open to speak with customers.
A car with two occupants left Route 2 around 4:30 p.m. and struck the pole, breaking it about four meters above the ground.
The power lines remained suspended on the damaged pole while emergency personnel worked to free the passenger from the car. The driver was able to get out of the wrecked car on his own.
RCMP also temporarily closed a section of Route 25 between Normandy Lane and Ash Lane in York for about an hour Monday night.
