Two inmates escape custody at Charlottetown courthouse

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A 35-year-old man and a 27-year-old man face charges after escaping custody while at the provincial courthouse in Charlottetown Thursday.

At about 2 p.m., Charlottetown police responded to a report of the escape.

Patrol officers, Charlottetown Police Street Crime Unit with the assistance of the RCMP K9 Units responded and conducted searches in the Charlottetown downtown core.

One of the escapees turned himself in within 30 minutes of the escape.

At about 2:55 p.m., the second escapee was located by police at a residence on Upper Hillsborough Street.

Both men will remain in custody and are facing new charges of escaping lawful custody and mischief under $5,000.
