Parks Canada has closed trails at Skmaqn-Port-la-Joye-Fort Amherst National Historic Site until further notice for the safety of visitors.

Staff said there have been frequent sightings of coyotes at the site, and the animals are displaying behaviour consistent with den protection.

Parks Canada staff are investigating and will continue to monitor the site.

Visitors are asked to take precautions and to plan ahead when visiting Parks Canada sites and to obey area closures to ensure their safety. Visitors should take the time to read safety information when planning a visit.

Visitors are also reminded that dogs must be on a leash of no more than three metres long at all times.

Any incidents occurring at Parks Canada sites should be reported to dispatch at 1-877-852-3100. The dispatch centre is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
