THREE RIVERS, P.E.I. – Three Rivers council has come up with some plans for repairing and making use of its community small halls.
Dorothy Macdonald, community services manager, outlined the plans during a recent committee of council meeting in Georgetown.
Public meetings were held to hear residents' input on what should be done.
"The meetings were very well-attended, and people certainly expressed their sentiments," Mayor Edward MacAulay said.
The plans will be finalized at a future meeting. Macdonald noted about $40,000 remains in the 2020-21 budget to go toward small hall operational costs and repairs.
The municipality will first repair the Lower Montague schoolhouse so it can be used as an emergency warming centre in the winter. Work will then start on the Cardigan Train Station, which includes removing debris, improving safety and stabilizing the structure.
For the 2021-22 budget, funds will be sought to finish repairing the train station as Three Rivers plans to issue a request for ideas and proposals on future use for the space. The Lorne Valley schoolhouse will then be tackled at as it requires extensive repairs.
