P.E.I. RCMP has charged a number of people with offences related to catalytic converter thefts which have occurred over the last three months.
The thefts have resulted in estimated damages of more than $100,000 from all types of passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, the majority of which were held at Island garages and auto salvage businesses across all three counties of P.E.I.
Some of the catalytic converters have been recovered as a result of the investigation.
Currently, five people have been charged for a total of 41 charges to date. The charges stem from 23 complaints which affected 11 business and about 60 vehicles at this point of the investigation.
Criminals who steal from people and/or businesses cite many reasons for which the thefts have occurred, none of which substantiate the harm done to businesses, business owners and those who rely on small business for their livelihood.
