CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A 30-year-old Charlottetown man with an extensive criminal record was sentenced in provincial court to four months in jail for stealing items from an apartment in the capital city.
Devon Morris MacLean, who was given credit of 82 days for time already served on remand, will be on probation for two years following his release.
Chief Judge Nancy Orr also ordered MacLean to pay $820 in restitution but suggested such payment should not be banked on considering the man has an outstanding accounts receivable of over $7,000 from previous convictions.
MacLean pleaded guilty Monday to stealing a set of speakers, a PlayStation 4 (PS4) and a record player, among other items, from an apartment on Kent Street in Charlottetown on July 12.
Video footage provided to police show two individuals, including MacLean, taking items out of the apartment.
Crown attorney Nathan Beck, reading from agreed statement of facts, said the stolen items were estimated to be valued at $1,640.
MacLean, who has a criminal record dating back to 2008, which includes convictions for assault, robbery and break and enter, apologized to the court for his recent crime.
“I’m trying to get my problems under control, but it’s hard," he told the court.
