Summerside police laid charges in three different incidents resulting in criminal charges for driving related offences Monday night into Tuesday morning.

The first incident occurred just before 9 p.m. on July 6 when an officer on patrol spotted a 33-year-old Summerside woman driving on Granville Street.

The woman was known to the officer from previous dealings and is prohibited from driving.

She was pulled over and arrested.

The vehicle was impounded, and the woman will be appearing in court at a later date to answer to a charge of prohibited driving.

At about 10:30 p.m., an officer on patrol on Granville Street attempted to stop a vehicle on Route 2 for having a burned out tail light.

The vehicle fled west at a high rate of speed and the officer did not pursue for safety reasons.

The vehicle was spotted again a few minutes later, and again fled from police, passing several cars on a solid line on Route 2.

Again, police did not pursue the vehicle but did observe it pull into a driveway where an officer was able to positively identify the driver before the vehicle fled again.

As a result of this incident, an 18-year-old West Prince man will be facing charges of flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

The third incident occurred at 2:30 a.m. on July 7 when an officer on MacEwen Road attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a vehicle.

The vehicle fled north at a high rate of speed and then continued on Granville Street toward Route 2.

A second officer who was positioned nearby was able to identify the driver as the vehicle passed through the Granville Street round about.

As a result of this incident, a 22-year-old Summerside man will be charged with flight from police.
