SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - A 29-year-old Summerside man faces several charges after trying to use a taxi as a get-away car following an alleged theft at the Atlantic Superstore on Granville Street Saturday night.
Summerside police received a call from Superstore staff at about 11 p.m. Jan. 25 reporting that the suspect, Wayne Joseph Gallant, had allegedly just stolen items from the store.
At the same time, police received a call from a local taxi driver who said he'd just taken a fare to the Superstore watched the same man run out a few minutes later with a basket of goods, telling the driver to drive away from the scene.
The driver got out of the car and Gallant fled on foot.
The suspect was arrested inside a nearby apartment building a short time later.
He was charged with one count of theft under five thousand dollars and breach of probation, along with theft and failing to stop for police from previous incident and was remanded into custody.
