CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A 59-year-old Summerside man was in provincial court recently on impaired driving charges.
Roger Joseph Perry was charged with impaired driving and being intoxicated two hours after operating a vehicle.
Summerside police stopped Perry after they found him driving at speed in the shoulder of Macewen Drive around 10:30 p.m. June 14. His blood alcohol level was 130 mg/dL.
Perry pleaded guilty to impaired driving, and Crown attorney John Diamond agreed to stay the second charge.
“I shouldn’t’ve been driving, I guess. It was a mistake I made,” said Perry.
Judge Krista MacKay sentenced Perry to three days in jail for the offence, saying that although he has previous drunk driving charges, they are from nearly 30 years ago.
Perry is prohibited from driving for 12 months. He must pay a $1,000 fine and a $300 victim surcharge.
