A 27-year-old Summerside man is in custody after allegedly committing a home invasion armed with a knife at a Summerside residence on Nov. 8.

Just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Summerside police received a 911 call reporting a home invasion in progress at a residence on Summer Street.

Two teenage girls were at home at the time the suspect entered the residence. Both stayed in the upper level of the house and could hear the suspect rummaging through the residence.

The girls contacted their father and grandfather. The grandfather, who lives nearby, attended the residence found the suspect inside the residence armed with a knife.

After being confronted by the grandfather, the suspect fled the residence and police were contacted.

The grandfather and another witness were able to keep the suspect in sight until police arrived and took him into custody.

No one was injured during the incident.

The suspect, Kevin Lee Walsh, appeared in court today to answer to charges of home invasion and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. He was remanded into custody by consent until his next court appearance, which will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. for a show cause hearing.
