STRATFORD, P.E.I. — A proposal to increase the number of lots being developed at Clearview Estates in Stratford has been denied by the town.
Stratford council discussed the proposal during its monthly meeting at Stratford Town Centre on Sept. 9.
The area, located along Brookside Drive just off the Trans-Canada Highway (TCH), is set to have 79 lots developed as part of Clearview Estate's second phase, which was approved in 2013.
MacDonald Quality Housing recently applied to develop an additional 11 lots as part of the phase, which would bring the total to 90.
Coun. Jill Burridge said the town's planning board, which she chairs, didn't recommend the proposal because Clearview Estates only has one access point, which could make getting onto the TCH more challenging. Adding an additional access point onto the highway would take time, she said.
Coun. Gary Clow, who lives in the area, said getting onto the busy road is already challenging.
"There definitely should be a second entrance there," he said. "Right now, it's dangerous."
Council's decision to deny the proposal will not impact the 79 lots planned for development.
