STRATFORD, P.E.I. - A new council in Stratford is ready to get to business.
Mayor Steve Ogden and other members of council took the oath of office during a swearing-in ceremony Wednesday.
The new council will officially take office today.
Ogden, who will also chair the accountability and engagement committee, said some of the items the new council will focus on include adequate school infrastructure, keeping Stratford affordable, pedestrian and traffic safety and citizen engagement.
“I am confident that these councilors have the necessary skills, abilities and personal qualities which, together with our great staff, will put the town in a good position to deal with challenges and seize the opportunities which will arise over the next four years,” said Ogden.
The council is made up of both familiar and new faces. Returning members include Ogden, Coun. Gary Clow and Coun. Gail MacDonald.
New members include Coun. Jill Burridge, Coun. Stephen Gallant, Coun. Darren MacDougall and Coun. Derek Smith.
Clow, who will serve as deputy mayor, said it is an exciting time to serve on Stratford council with a number of major initiatives underway including a new emergency services facility, the waste-water treatment project, announcement of a new high school and heavy business development.
“What a time, the things happening in Stratford right now are incredible,” said Clow.
