SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. - A 31-year-old Summerside man is facing multiple weapons charges after a stabbing incident last week.

Shortly before 9 p.m. last Thursday, a 24-year-old male attended the Summerside Police Service reporting he had just been involved in an altercation with another man and had been stabbed in the hand and shoulder.

The man told police he had accompanied a female acquaintance to a Heckbert Street residence so she could pick up her child from the child’s father.

At some point, the two men then became involved in a physical altercation and the suspect, a 31-year-old man from Summerside, brandished a knife. The altercation ended with the victim receiving minor injuries to his hand and shoulder.

The suspect was arrested a short time later and was held in custody until today when he will be appearing before the court.

The man faces charges of assault with a weapon, assault, uttering threats, possession of a dangerous weapon and mischief.
