Souris man charged with impaired driving following collision

FORTUNE BRIDGE, P.E.I. — A 21-year-old man from the Souris area faces drunk driving charges after he crashed into a ditch early Tuesday morning.

Kings District RCMP, Island EMS and Souris Volunteer Fire Department responded to the June 23 incident which took place just after 2:30 a.m. on Route 2 in Fortune Bridge.

A nearby resident who was awoken from the sound of the crash called 911.

Shortly thereafter, the driver was located walking away from the scene showing signs of impairment and was arrested for impaired driving.

He did not sustain any injuries, but his vehicle was demolished.

After being assessed by paramedics, the man was transported to the Souris RCMP Detachment where he provided samples of his breath one and a half times the legal limit.

He was released from custody after being served a 90-day driving prohibition and is scheduled to appear in Georgetown Provincial Court at a later date.
