Parts of P.E.I. could expect up to 20 cm of snow by Saturday morning.
Environment Canada issued a snow squall watch for Kings and Queens counties Thursday afternoon.
The weather agency says flurries, heavy at times, should develop Friday morning over central P.E.I. and northern Nova Scotia, and will persist into Friday afternoon and evening.
Snow squalls are also likely.
Under the snow squall bands, visibility will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow, and the snow will quickly accumulate.
Environment Canada predicts up to 20 cm of total snowfall by Saturday morning.
Winds are already high across P.E.I., prompting Northumberland Ferries Ltd. to cancel its 6:15 crossing from Wood Islands.
NFL also cancelled all scheduled sailings between P.E.I. and Nova Scotia for Friday due to the weather forecast.
The forecast is also impacting Charlottetown’s Christmas festivities scheduled for the weekend.
The Christmas parade has been moved from Saturday to Sunday at 5 p.m.
The Wintertide tree-lighting ceremony will still take place Friday at 6:15 p.m., but will now take place inside the Confederation Court Mall. The outdoor market and programming, scheduled to run from Friday to Sunday, will also be moved inside the mall.
The following activities will still go ahead as planned outside on Victoria Row: ice sculpting demos, festive petting zoo, horse and wagon rides, and the Christmas Tree Garden.
