While winter is officially only two weeks old, the season of snow seems to have been around much longer.
The snowfall amount in Charlottetown for November was 67 centimetres, well above the 22 cm average for that month, notes SaltWire meteorologist Cindy Day. Another 43 cm fell on the capital city in December.
A New Year’s Day storm dumped a relatively modest 12 to 16 cm of the white stuff across P.E.I., but weather conditions were still messy enough to lead to some levees being cancelled. Fortunately, there were no power outages reported.
“The storm system wasn’t intense…it was just some wind and some snow,’’ says Day.
More snow is in the near future.
Day is forecasting a little clipper Friday bringing just a few centimetres of snow or what she is calling a “nice little cosmetic covering”.
Another 10 to 15 cm of snow is expected to fall on P.E.I. Sunday with easterly winds gusting to 50 km/hr.
