ELLERSLIE, P.E.I. — Sharon Dunn of O’Leary was acclaimed Sept. 5, to represent Egmont New Democrats in the upcoming federal election.

Dunn, a UPEI graduate, former executive secretary and property manager, outlined her reasons for seeking election, and her campaign priorities and objectives.

She said she appreciates the approach to leadership by New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh and his plans on health care, the environment, housing and reconciliation with First Nations people.

Drawing attention to the fact thousands of Islanders have no family physician, Dunn threw her support behind the proposal to build a medical faculty to educate physicians at the University of Prince Edward Island, which would require both federal and provincial government financial backing.

“Tommy Douglas and the New Democrats started Medicare in Canada, and Jagmeet Singh will extend the program to include Pharmacare and Dental Care,” she said. “No Canadian should be put in the position to having to decide between paying for food or prescriptions.”

She also touched on the importance of climate change, housing and employment initiatives.
