A memorial service will be held this week in remembrance of the 14 women who were murdered during the 1989 Montreal Massacre.
The service will also see candles lit in honour of the 10 Island women who have been murdered since that year.
The P.E.I. Advisory Council on the Status of Women is hosting the service, which will be held at the Confederation Centre of the Arts’ Memorial Hall from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 6.
The annual service marks Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Paxton Caseley will be the event’s guest speaker, while poet Lily Levesque will share a spoken word piece. Julie Pelletier-Lush will offer Mi’kmaq prayers to open the service, while Dylan Menzie will provide piano music.
