The Public Schools Branch and the French Language school board have both announced that all classes are cancelled for today.

Holland College has also cancelled all classes. UPEI opened as usual this morning but by 11:30 a.m. announced it is closing at 1 p.m.

The move comes in the wake of the continuing forecast of a severe winter storm expected to begin around the noon hour on P.E.I.

It is being called a weather bomb, where the atmospheric pressure drops 24 or more points in 24 hours. The morning has brought a possible bit of sun and calm winds, but that will change suddenly and dramatically mid-day.

Along the Eastern Seaboard, states have been declaring states of emergency.

It is expected to begin on P.E.I. as strong blowing snow before changing over to rain late this evening.

It is predicted that the snow will be heavier in Prince County.

For today, school and branch staff will follow any direction that may be given to provincial government offices in their work areas.
