CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — There are no new cases of COVID-19 reported in P.E.I. after more than 800 tests were completed at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital over the weekend.
Chief public health officer Dr. Heather Morrison provided an update on the coronavirus (COVID-19) this morning during a news conference.
The update comes several days after five active cases were reported, including four connected to someone in Nova Scotia who had arrived from the U.S.
There have been no new confirmed cases since Sunday and Morrison said 852 COVID-19 tests were completed over the weekend.
Morrison said all five of the active cases are doing well at home and all test results for close contacts to the cluster have come back negative.
That includes Whisperwood Villa residents, staff and visitors, who Morrison said will be re-tested starting tomorrow.
Morrison also provided an update on recent travel to the province, saying 5,719 vehicles crossed the Confederation Bridge from July 3-5.
A further 794 vehicles arrived by ferry and 164 people arrived at the Charlottetown Airport.
Morrison said there will be more staff at the bridge on weekends and traffic has been flowing smoothly with few people showing up without the necessary declaration form.
During her briefing, Morrison also “strongly recommended” people wear masks in indoor settings where they are not able to keep six-feet of physical distance.
Morrison said it is a recommendation and not mandatory.
She also said it is a measure meant to protect other people and she urged Islanders not to judge anyone who isn’t wearing a mask.
