Front counter service at RCMP detachments across Prince Edward Island reopened Monday, July 6th.
With recent COVID-19 restrictions, a national policy resulted in counter service being suspended and now, as we reopen, a new approach to the services will be in place to adapt for the safety of the public and employees at the detachments.
With the suspension of service, criminal record checks and vulnerable sector checks were not undertaken in the past few months.
At this point, only criminal record checks can be completed.
It is anticipated that vulnerable record check processing will begin again in the near future and public announcement will be made at that time to inform every one of the resumption of that service.
The closure of front counter service has resulted in a backlog of customers looking for these services and will require management over the next few weeks/months to process.
Note the following restrictions:
- delays are to be expected due to the volume of request;
- only one person in the RCMP lobby at one time, please follow COVID-19 distancing restrictions;
- front counter requests are to be made in person, not by phone;
- RCMP will not be taking appointments or advance requests;
- to avoid delays and to ensure that processing is as efficient as possible, please ensure that you have all required documentation when you attend RCMP detachments. Proper ID and any employer documentation required should be provided at the time of request. Delays will be incurred if you arrive without the documentation required. Stratford detachment is open for counter services as well at the new location at the roundabout between the TransCanada Highway and Georgetown Road.
