CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - Members of the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will be rallying across the Atlantic region, including Charlottetown, Wednesday.
The rallies will take place at various workplaces with participants demanding that their employer, the Government of Canada, negotiates a fair collective agreement in a timely manner.
The Charlottetown rally is set for 11:30-1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Daniel J. Macdonald building atrium off Grafton Street.
Colleen Coffey, regional executive vice-president for PSAC’s Atlantic region, notes the pace of bargaining so far has been slow, and issues continue to plague the Phoenix payroll system for government workers.
“After two years of hardships under (problematic payroll system) Phoenix, PSAC members continue to show up to work every day and deliver the services Canadians depend on. The least this government can do is negotiate a collective agreement that recognizes the value of their work and the importance of the services they provide to Canadians,” she said.
“Prime Minister Trudeau promised a new and respectful relationship with public service workers, but delays at the bargaining table tell a different story.”
