SUMMERSIDE, P.E.I. — A 21-year-old Prince County man is facing multiple charges after a break-in that occurred overnight Sunday and resulted in a truck being stolen and two police pursuits in Summerside and Kensington Monday morning.
At approximately 7 a.m. March 25, Summerside police received a report of a break, enter and theft at Superior Sanitation on Industrial Crescent.
A large quantity of tools was stolen during the break-in, along with a Ford F-350 truck.
Just before 10 a.m., the truck was found travelling east on Route 2 near the Slemon Park roundabout.
Police attempted to stop the truck, but the driver fled and was operating the vehicle in a dangerous manner, so the pursuit was terminated due to public safety concerns.
The vehicle continued into Kensington where, once again, the driver failed to stop for police, this time the Kensington police.
Again, police terminated the pursuit for public safety reasons.
Members from both the Summerside and Kensington police services, along with an RCMP K-9 team, continued patrolling the Kensington area and located the vehicle in a residential laneway on the Burlington Road.
The driver attempted to drive out of the laneway, but this time stopped for police and was taken into custody.
He is facing two charges of dangerous driving, two charges of flight from police and one charge of break, enter and theft.
There was property recovered from the vehicle that is believed to be stolen from other break-ins in the Prince County area, and further charges are expected.
The man was held in custody overnight and will appear before the court Tuesday to be formally charged.
