An Australian doctor facing child pornography charges on P.E.I. elected through his lawyer to be dealt with in Supreme Court by judge alone.

A judge Thursday set Dec. 11 in Supreme Court as the date for pleas to be entered in the case that has made international headlines.

Dr. Stephen Peter Menzies Murray is charged with possessing, making and distributing child pornography. All of the charges relate solely to written material.

Murray returned to Australia earlier this week after his lawyer successfully argued before a P.E.I. Supreme Court judge to allow the skin care specialist to go back home until he is required to come back to Prince Edward Island to deal with the charges.

He had been released from prison in October under several conditions, which included wearing an electronic monitoring bracelet, continuing to relinquish his passport and remaining away from the Confederation Bridge, the Wood Islands ferry terminal and the Charlottetown Airport.

The Guardian has learned that Murray, who is principal and director of Scotvale Medical Centre at the Red Hill Homemaker Centre, is not taking clients until the New Year despite the return to his country.
