Charlottetown police will be stepping up patrols in the city after a spike in thefts from vehicles and sheds.
Police said they have seen an increased volume of complaints, including some daytime thefts from vehicles in public parking lots. Most of the crimes, however, are committed at nightime under the cover of darkness.
The Parkdale, St. Avard’s, downtown and Brighton areas of the city are affected.
Police said they will be stepping up patrols in these areas.
Residents can take some preventative measures such as keeping their vehicle doors and shed doors locked, not leaving valuables such as purses, wallets and electronic devices in vehicles and immediately reporting suspicious activity.
Anyone with information about these crimes can contact police at 902-629-4172, or contact P.E.I. Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
