Police officers crack down on speeders

CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — Charlottetown Police Services ramped up efforts to curb speeding in May.

On Monday, the department released the first statistical data in terms of speeding since March when public health guidelines came into effect around the coronavirus (COVID-19 strain) pandemic.

The hotspot continues to be University Avenue, where police issued 11 tickets from Enman Crescent to Belvedere Avenue. Four speeding tickets were issued on the bypass highway, between Brackley Point Road and St. Peters Road.

Two tickets were also issued along Lower Malpeque Road, between Highfield and Sherwood Road, while two tickets were issued on Fourth Street, which connects the West Royalty Industrial Park with the bypass highway.
