STRATFORD, P.E.I. - Darren MacDougall has announced his candidacy for Stratford town council serving in Ward 2.

MacDougall grew up in Stratford and continues to live in the town raising his four young children (Charleigh, Drew, Henry, Peter) with his partner Chelsea Gotell. Gotell works in the community as a home care nurse for Health P.E.I. while MacDougall has been a member of Charlottetown Police Services since 1995.

“I look forward to having the opportunity to provide residents of Stratford with a safe and secure community,” he said. “I will work hard to advocate for our children’s future in education, health and recreation.”

MacDougall’s background includes serving others as the past provincial co-ordinator of the Amber Alert program and as a minor hockey volunteer. He has 23 years of experience as a police officer, including seven years as a detective in the major crimes unit and as a war crimes investigator in Kosovo for the United Nations. MacDougall has recently been assigned as a corporal in charge of the street crime unit with a focus on illicit drug enforcement.

MacDougall, who has a bachelor of arts degree with a major in history from UPEI, lists his priorities as local school infrastructure, recreational facilities and ensuring safe neighborhoods.
