Four impaired driving charges were laid by P.E.I. RCMP during recent checkpoints around the province.

RCMP members from across P.E.I. participated in more than 20 checkpoints during National Safe Driving Week, Dec. 1-7, and National Impaired Driving Enforcement Day, Dec. 7.

Along with the impaired driving charges, after searching about 3,000 vehicles, police laid more charges, including a roadside suspension related to alcohol consumption, several driving while prohibited charges and 50 charges related to expired registrations, expired inspections and other traffic offences.

The RCMP will be increasing the number of checkpoints as the busy holiday season approaches to both detect and deter impaired driving-related offences.

Anyone planning to consume alcohol or other intoxicating substances is asked to plan ahead to have a sober driver or make other arrangements.
