CRAPAUD, P.E.I. — A Kellys Cross woman is making a last-minute plea for school supply donations to ease the burden for many parents.

Krystal Rice started the initiative last year with great success.

Items poured in, enough to fill her husband’s half-ton pick-up truck three times.

About 100 people came on Aug. 25, 2018 – a couple weeks before the start of school – to load up on free items including backpacks, school supplies and clothes.

“The response was amazing…it was incredible,’’ says Rice.

“The reach was really huge.’’

There were enough items left over, in fact, to deliver school care packages to 24 different people.

Rice was excited about repeating the goodwill gesture again this year.

However, response has fallen well short of last year’s generous outpouring of support.

She has only collected two large blue bags of items so far despite heavily promoting the event through social media.

“I was really surprised,’’ she says.

She is hopeful a final push will result help top up the offerings.

People can drop off items like backpacks, school supplies and clothes by Friday in the main lobby of Englewood School from 7:15 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. or at Harvey’s Clover Farm in Crapaud from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

People can come and pick up what they need for free on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 noon at the Crapaud Fire Hall.

Krystal Rice is hoping to gather more school supplies by Friday to help kids and families at back-to-school time.
