CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A string of offences that included thefts from liquor stores, Shoppers Drug Mart and Rogers Communications landed a P.E.I. woman a one-year sentence recently.

Amanda Lee Trainor, 41, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty to nine charges including five thefts, three counts of failing to attend court and one count of abetting a probation breach.

The court heard Trainor stole pint bottles of rum from liquor stores three times, including twice within two weeks.

Trainor stole more than $700 worth of items from Shoppers Drug Mart, a Bluetooth headseat worth $230 from Rogers Communications and items from a Superstore.

In two of those cases, Trainor committed the thefts on the same days she failed to show up for court appearances.

Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald told the court Trainor has a 20-page criminal record and custody was required to bring home the message that her actions were unacceptable.

After credit for time spent in custody since her arrest, Trainor was left with eight months still to serve on her sentence.

Trainor will be on probation for two years, during which time she is banned from the liquor store, Shoppers Drug Mart, Superstore and Rogers Communications where she committed the thefts.

She must also pay more than $1,000 in restitution.
