CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. woman avoided jail time recently after using her cellphone to cash a stolen cheque.
Ashley Lynn Eldershaw, 22, appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where she pleaded guilty and was given a suspended sentence for using a forged cheque.
The court heard that in December 2018 the victim reported several cheques from a stolen chequebook were cashed.
Eldershaw admitted to depositing one of them into her account using her cellphone.
With the suspended sentence, Eldershaw will be on probation for nine months and must pay $365 in restitution.
