A word from SaltWire Network chief meteorologist Cindy Day:

“Large scale features in the atmosphere have become detached from the upper-air flow and are creating a very unusual weather pattern. Instead of moving from west to east, our weather is backing in from the east. Wet flurries have changed to rain as the trough tracks westward across the Island. There’ll be little or no movement after that, so the wet weather is expected to linger into the evening and overnight. Rainfall totals will be in the 15 to 25 millimetres range and snowfall, if any, will be less than five centimetres. The raw east to northeast wind will continue to gust between 40 and 60 km/h tomorrow and Friday. The cycle of damp weather is expected to break this weekend. A light north wind will pull drier air down across the region, treating us to a mix of sun and cloud for the first weekend of April.”
