Weather – Frost advisory in effect

It will be sunny this morning on the Island becoming a mix of sun and cloud near noon. Fog patches are expected to dissipate this morning with northwest wind gusting to 20 km/h. Today’s high is 11. The UV index is 6, or high.

A few clouds tonight with increasing cloudiness before morning. A low of 1 C is expected, but in low lying areas, it will be -2 C. Frost is in the forecast.

FROST ADVISORY: Frost may damage some crops in frost-prone areas.

A cold air mass combined with mainly clear skies and light winds will give favourable conditions for patchy frost formation overnight tonight into early Friday morning.

Frost advisories are issued when temperatures are expected to reach the freezing mark during the growing season, leading to potential damage and destruction to plants and crops.

A few words from Cindy Day

It has not been a great month, but SaltWire Network’s chief meteorologist said there is some hope on the horizon.

Cindy Day said the Jet Stream is shifting northward and the systems will start to track up and over the province.

While that doesn’t mean it’ll be any brighter, it should allow temperatures to return to more seasonal values.

The normal high for this time of year is 16 C and the normal low is 6 C.

As far as the weekend weather goes, once again, it will be split down the middle with fair weather Saturday and some moisture on Sunday.
