Increasing cloudiness throughout the day with a 60 per cent chance of flurries late this morning, with flurries at times heavy beginning near noon. There is a risk of snow squalls this afternoon, with 2-5 cm expected and winds gusting up to 50 km/h. The high will be -3 C, but with wind chill it will feel more like -15 C in the morning and -9 C in the afternoon.
Tonight, flurries at times will be heavy with a risk of snow squalls this evening. Blowing snow over exposed areas will amount to 2-5 cm, with winds gusting up to 60 km/h. Tonight’s low is expected to be -6 C, but with wind chill it will be near -15 C.
ADVISORY: Snow squalls are expected to develop in Queens and Kings counties.
Under the snow squall bands, visibilities will be significantly reduced due to the heavy snow combined with blowing snow, and snow will quickly accumulate.
Cold northerly winds blowing off of the Gulf of St. Lawrence will develop later today.
These northerly winds will cause flurries at times heavy with the risk of snowsqualls to develop over these regions this afternoon.
These conditions are forecast to persist tonight, then improve Thursday morning as an area of high-pressure approaches from the west.
Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, and changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.
Visibility may be significantly and suddenly reduced to near zero.
Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight.
Snow squall watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
