CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A retired sheriff and former TV host who is facing multiple charges that include allegations of sexual assault has had his case adjourned until January.
William Vernon Acorn, 83, was not in provincial court in Charlottetown Thursday morning where his lawyer asked Judge John Douglas for an adjournment.

Acorn was the host of cable television show “Bill’s Country Jamboree” and in 2012 he received the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal, which honours significant contributions and achievements by Canadians.
His next court date is scheduled for Jan. 22.
