A woman has been handed a seven-day driving suspension after RCMP pulled her over in Dunstaffnage at 3:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
RCMP Sgt. Leanne Butler said Charlottetown police issued a BOLO – be on the lookout – for a vehicle that was involved in an incident in Charlottetown, where it allegedly struck a number of things in the city before heading out of town.
When the driver landed in Dunstaffnage, the RCMP identified the vehicle, Butler said.
“At that time, our member did see the vehicle and affected an arrest on the driver, and the driver has since been released on a seven-day driving suspension for operating a vehicle after consuming a drug within a 24-hour period.”
The officer performed a standard field sobriety test at which time the suspension – which is not a Criminal Code offence – was issued. The driver’s car was also towed.
Because the driver didn’t fail the test, she wasn’t subjected to further testing which could identify the exact drug in her system.
Butler said Charlottetown police are still investigating the incident.
A call into Charlottetown Police Services has not yet been returned.
The RCMP would like to remind the public that consuming a drug and driving can result in impaired driving charges.
Butler said while officers were dealing with that incident, within the next 40 minutes there were two more impaired driving incidents.
One resulted in a collision and injuries, which is still under investigation. Butler said charges are expected in that case.
Also at that time, RCMP caught an impaired driver in Stratford who will appear in court in January. More information about these incidents will be released later.
