A driver of a pickup truck suffered minor injuries after ice smashed through his windshield.

Shortly before 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 24, Kings District RCMP were dispatched to a serious vehicle incident on Route 16 in the Red Point Area.

The driver of truck travelling eastbound almost lost control of his truck when a large piece of ice came through his front window.

The driver believes the ice came off the roof of one a several vehicles that passed his vehicle going westbound.

The driver of the truck that was struck suffered minor hand and face injuries as a result of the ice hitting the hood of the truck and smashing through the windshield landing in the rear seat of the truck.

The driver of the truck had quick reflexes and, because he was working at the time, was wearing work safety glasses or his injuries could have been more serious.

Police are requesting any information on who the other vehicle was, as it did not stop at the scene, and may not even be aware what the ice and snow on their vehicle may have caused.

This applies not only after a storm but every time a driver gets into their car, they must ensure the vehicle is safe to be on the roadways.

It is the driver’s responsibility to clear lights, licence plates, windshields and windows and the top of the vehicle so these types of incidents do not occur.
