It wasn’t a typical call for P.E.I. police.
A U.S. man living in Canada illegally was arrested in Kensington, P.E.I. Saturday morning by officers with the Canadian Border Services Agency.
East Prince RCMP and Kensington Police also assisted with the arrest of the 47-year-old man.
RCMP Staff Sgt. Derrick Hewitt said the arrest, which occured shortly before 8 a.m., was an unusual one for P.E.I. police.
“It’s not very often we deal with anything like that, especially in P.E.I.,” said Hewitt, who has been with the RCMP for more than 21 years. “I’ve dealt with Border Services on different things… this is the second time I’ve dealt with someone who was here that shouldn’t be here.
“It’s very rare.”
Hewitt said the man had not been living in P.E.I. for very long, although was unsure of the exact amount of time.
He noted the investigation is being conducted by Canadian Border Services Agency.
The man was remanded in custody and will appear in Summerside Court later this week. If found guilty, he could face deportation.
