CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Charlottetown man who stole more than $200 in scratch tickets from a gas station was recently given a suspended sentence.

Donald (Artie) Gautreau appeared before Judge John Douglas in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to the theft.

Crown attorney Jeff MacDonald told the court Gautreau went to a gas station where he took $220 in scratch cards.

The police found Gautreau at his nearby tattoo parlour and they recovered the scratch tickets.

Gautreau addressed the court before hearing his sentence, saying he couldn’t explain why he did it and that he knew he couldn’t cash in any winning cards without getting caught.

“I’d like to explain it but I really can’t,” he said.

With the suspended sentence, Gautreau will be on probation for nine months during which time he is banned from the gas station.
