GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A man with a disturbing driving record told police he snorted speed shortly before getting behind the wheel and crashing his vehicle.

Stephen Terrance Peters pleaded guilty Thursday, Feb. 28, to operating a vehicle while impaired by drug. He will be sentenced March 7.

Police were called to a collision in Morell East at 7:52 a.m. on May 26, 2018. The vehicle driven by Peters was on a lawn, badly damaged. Fire fighters and paramedics provided treatment to Peters and two passengers of his vehicle. All three were taken to hospital.

A motorist driving behind Peters said Peters failed to negotiate a turn, noting it appeared like Peters was turning into a driveway, except there was none.

Peters told police he had snorted speed 20 minutes before he started driving, and had also consumed Xanax, a a powerful benzodiazepine.

Peters has a lengthy prior criminal record including impaired driving and three driving while disqualified convictions.
