GEORGETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man who was found guilty of slashing a tire on his ex-girlfriend’s son’s car while it was in a parking lot was sentenced recently to 10 days in jail.
Jeff William Clory appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Georgetown for trial after pleading not guilty to mischief.
During the trial, the court heard from four witnesses, including the 19-year-old victim who said he left his car in a parking lot while he carpooled for work.
While he was gone, someone slashed one of the tires, he said.
The court also heard from three sisters who said they saw Clory near the victim’s vehicle on the day one of its tires was slashed.
One of the sisters said she saw Clory bending down near the slashed tire with something in his hand.
Air was hissing out of the tire, the girl said.
The court heard Clory and the victim’s mother had dated but broke up some time before the incident.
Clory didn’t testify and after reviewing all the evidence, Orr said she was satisfied there was no other conclusion than that he damaged the tire.
Before sentencing Clory, Orr asked him how much time he would need to pay the $203.55 in restitution for the replacement of the damaged tire.
Clory said he wanted as much time as possible, to which Orr suggested two weeks.
“If I had your salary, I’d pay it today, but I don’t,” Clory said.
He also seemed surprised when Orr sentenced him to 10 days in jail.
“Wow,” Clory said.
Along with the jail time, which Clory will serve on weekends, he will be on probation for one year and must pay $203.55 in restitution within one month of his sentencing.
