The RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken over an investigation in Kings County after a man was shot while being taken into police custody.
On Monday at around 2:40 p.m., Kings District RCMP responded to a complaint of a possible impaired driver in the Souris area.
A Kings District RCMP officer attended a residence in Rollo Bay in order to follow up with an investigation into the complaint.
An altercation between a 33-year-old man and the RCMP officer occurred, during which the officer was physically assaulted and discharged his service pistol.

The 33-year-old man was transported to the hospital by ambulance with a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the leg.
The RCMP officer was also transported to the hospital for medical treatment and has since been released.
The RCMP Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation into the matter.
The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) from Nova Scotia will be conducting a thorough and objective investigation to determine what took place.
No charges have been laid at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.
