CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. - A P.E.I. man who stole an inflatable boat and its motor from the Cornwall area was sentenced Dec. 10 to seven days in jail.

David Joseph Arsenault, 51, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown where he pleaded guilty to the theft.

The court heard the boat’s owner reported it and an outboard motor went missing in August.

Arsenault was later arrested for stealing several boats in the Summerside area and he provided details to the police about how he took them.

He also took the police to the boat for which he was sentenced Monday, although the motor was never recovered.

The court heard it was valued at $1,000.

Defence lawyer Thane MacEachern said Arsenault wasn’t in a good frame of mind at the time and he told the police he wanted to get caught.

Arsenault will serve the sentence concurrently to any other time for other offences and he is scheduled to be released on Dec. 17.

He must pay $1,000 in restitution for the missing motor.
