CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A Rocky Point man who had been drinking the day he left the scene of an accident was sentenced recently to 15 days in jail and ordered to write an apology letter.

Vernon George Francis, 61, appeared before Chief Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously entering a guilty plea.

The court heard that Francis was co-operative, he took responsibility for what he did and he has since taken part in a sentencing circle.

Before sentencing Francis, Orr noted he had been drinking before the accident, but by the time the police contacted him it was too late to pursue on investigation on that aspect of the offence.

Along with the jail time, Francis is banned from driving for one year.
