CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A P.E.I. man whose victim ended up on the floor during a struggle was sentenced recently to 30 days in jail.
Thomas Randolph Shkrabuik, 40, appeared before Judge Nancy Orr in provincial court in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to one count of assault.
The court heard that during a struggle, the victim ended up on the floor.
Orr couldn’t sentence Shkrabuik the day he entered his guilty plea because there were no beds available at the Provincial Correctional Centre.
Bed shortages have been an ongoing issue at the jail because of COVID-19 restrictions.
When Shkrabuik was back in court for sentencing, Orr also placed him on probation for 18 months, which included a condition he write an apology letter to the victim.
