Law enforcement agencies in P.E.I. are on the hunt for two men who escaped from the Provincial Correctional Centre yesterday.
A statement from the Justice Department issued this morning said that at around 11 p.m., Murray James Todd, 31, and Brandon Jeffery Quinn, 22, escaped from the jail where they were serving time for non-violent offences.
The statement said the RCMP and municipal police forces were notified immediately and are searching for the two men.
An investigation is underway at the jail to determine how the inmates escaped and what measures are needed to strengthen all correctional facilities in P.E.I., the statement said.
Last year, Quinn was sentenced to 30 days consecutive to any other time he was serving on a charge of mischief after he and Michael Wayne Gauthier left their cell at the jail through a ceiling hatch that had a broken lock on it.
In that case, a guard found the two inside the jail after they tripped an alarm.
The court was told Quinn and Gauthier said they weren’t planning on escaping and left their cell to find materials to make a still.
