CHARLOTTETOWN, P.E.I. — A man involved in a three-vehicle collision in Charlottetown in December was sentenced to 30 days in jail for impaired driving.

Matthew Cory Roper, 31, will serve the sentence on an intermittent basis.

Roper was also handed nine months of probation and a 12-month driving prohibition.

The provincial court in Charlottetown on Jan. 31 heard Roper told police he left the scene of the collision because he panicked.

Roper registered extremely high readings, over 0.3 blood alcohol level, despite claiming he felt fit to drive.

He told the court he was thankful no one was injured in the collision.

“I deeply regret my decision that day,’’ he said.

“I should have known better.’’

Roper has a prior impaired driving conviction.

His lawyer said Roper has refrained from consuming alcohol since the Dec. 15 incident.
